Beginning, Middle, End

Apocalypto is a movie that i believe has a great beginning, middle, and end. This movie is based on the life of the Mayans. In the beginning we see the life that the mayans live in. The women are the ones who stay at home and gather up small foods like berries and such. They also cook the food and take care of the children. The men are the ones who provide the food for the women and children. Everything goes wrong when the mayans get attacked and become hostage to their rivals. The village is destroyed and the children are left behind as they take their mothers and fathers. There is a particular character that the movie is based on and through this character the audience gets to see the gruesome acts of their enemy. The man is allowed to go back home and makes it out alive, but when the enemy saw that he survived, the enemy goes after him and chase him until the man finds a way to kill them. At the end, the man is finally reunited with his family and finds out that his wife gave birth to their baby. They end up living a normal life again, but the last scene shows that they might have to change their way of life again because a ship is emerging to the land.

Undeserved Misfortune

Maleficent is a film that shows undeserved misfortune. In this movie, Maleficent was a good fairy at first and cared a lot about the forrest. You would think that she would continue on to be a good fairy but in the middle of the movie, Maleficent had her wings cut off. The person she loved betrayed her and cut off her wings so he could become the king. The greed of the upcoming king doomed Maleficent into living a life full of revenge a resentment. She did not deserve this to happen to her. The moment she realized she had lost her wings she became evil and cursed the king's daughter. If her wings had not gotten cut off she would have had a life of happiness, but the undeserved misfortune is what creates the plot and makes a great conflict for the film.

Conflict

A conflict that i found very interesting but also managed to be comical, was the conflict of Adam Sandler's character in Just Go With It. In the beginning it shows that he is going to be getting married, but he over hears his soon to be bride gossiping about the reason why she is marrying him. She makes fun of his very large nose and says how she will only be marrying him because he is going to be a doctor and will have money. In real life, these situations happen very often, in fact this has happened in my life. It didn't happen to me but it happened to one of my family members, a girl tried to be part of the family because she thought that my brother was going to stay with him no matter what and at the time had a stable job and would be able to support her. Something like this can be made into a film in a way where it can be comical just like Adam Sandler did in his film. The conflict of deciding whether to choose between staying with someone who they really love, but doesnt have much to their name, or being with someone just because they have money and dont even love them can be a good conflict for a movie.

Review of the Elephant Man

The Elephant Man was a good movie. The movie was based on the writings of Dr. Fredrick Treves and his findings with Mr. John Merrick. Throughout the movie there is a theme that is brought upon to the audience. Dr. Treves is in doubt about whether he is a good man or a bad man. The way this movie developed this theme was very interesting because it showed the audience how his intentions changed while creating a relationship with John Merrick. I think that this really captivated me because I got to see the main character's feelings change towards another while at the same time my approach towards John Merrick changed as well. At first, seeing him was very uncomfortable but then through the movie, I got to see him as an actual human being. The movie was great when it came to the makeup. i thought that the way they were able to dress up John Hurt as the elephant man, was very amazing because the makeup was so realistic. Overall, this movie had an eerie feeling to it, but at the end it changed into a more heartwarming feel since I got to see the struggle of John Merrick and how he had been discriminated throughout his whole life and yet still had a positive attitude towards life.

My Name is John Merrick

I am on my way to France tonight. I cant believe that Bites would ever come back to my life. I believed that he would never appear again. But, after tonight i was proven wrong. The night porter did a disgusting thing on collecting money from people who wanted to see my deformity as an entertainment. If my life wasn't horrible enough, I could not have done anything. I finally had been accepted as a resident of the hospital, and to be taken away by this horrible man, is another form of abuse i have to take from this horrible human being. After all the people who came into my room had left, it seems Bites had stayed behind. He came into my room, and the moment i saw him my heart instantly sank. I was terrified. Once more i had become his slave in which he would try to gain money from. Once more will i have to live a life of humiliation in a freak show, people not knowing that I am not an animal, I am human being, I am a man.

Welcome To My Nightmare

Fear is very powerful. Fear can stop you from succeeding in life. Fear is everywhere in life and sometimes we have to acknowledge it before it eats us alive. For me my biggest fear is public speaking. I dread speaking in public, whether its in a classroom or in front of my friends, i simply hate it. I wasn't always afraid of public speaking, it was until i got to a certain age that i began to become more embarrassed and shy to actually speak in front of others when i realized "hey this is really scary". Even though i would always tell myself to not worry about it and just speak, my fear of making a fool of myself in front everyone really stopped me from speaking my mind. Lately I haven't really allowed my fear of public speaking stop me from doing and saying what i want, but there has been times when i remain quiet when i feel i should say something. Honestly, I believe that speaking your mind is the most powerful thing anyone can do. Letting others know that your opinion matters and that you have a voice, really is something to be proud of. Sometimes to overcome the fear, you have to do what you fear the most. For me, putting the fact of speaking in front of others and knowing i will be judged; whether its negative or positive, aside is a big step in making public speaking my strength rather than my fear.

Compassionate Science

The world without compassionate scientists would be a world without a heart. This meaning that the studies that the scientist we trust, will become corrupt. Scientists without a heart will work only because they are interested in a pay check and a material outcome. The passion in creating happiness through technology would be long gone. A world without compassionate scientists is a world I do not want to live. I am not very interested in fulfilling a career in technology, but I still admire and am mesmerized by what our technology can do. I would not want a career in technology, but for those who do like that field and wish to become something out of it, I believe that they are our hope for a better world. With a big heart anyone can create happiness to those who need it. For example, in the short video we recently watched, Mike strived to bring back the happiness of those who lost their limbs. He created a way for them to have prosthetics and be able to live the life they once had before. A scientists who does their studies and creates new ideas not for themselves, but to bring hope into another persons life is what should be looked upon in a scientist. A selfish less scientist can create a whole new world with just one creation of hope. If more scientist, like Mike existed, our world would be a world of love and hope and instead of heading backwards in technology, we would be moving forward and creating long lasting memories of compassion.

The Future

The future in ten to twenty years will not be any different from today. There will still be cars that run on  gas, the drought here in California will still continue and maybe even worsen, pollution will still exist, and the world will only be getting warmer. I think that many people give to much hype to the future. I believe that the future only repeats prior events, maybe not exactly the same way but in similar forms. One thing that I do believe will change within ten to twenty years will be the fashion. Fashion always changes no matter what. Even if some styles stay, most of the times new trends begin and change the way people dress. Hopefully by then, women clothing is not as revealing as it is now. In the next ten to twenty years music will change. Artists will either rise or be forgotten by most of us. I believe that CDs will soon fade away within that time and maybe we'll all have to use netflix or something to continue watching our favorite movies like now. I believe that bands such as The Ramones, The Beatles, The Cure, The Smiths, The Doors, AC/DC, etc, will be unknown to the young generation of that time. Since the younger generation of now seems careless enough, and acknowledge a very different taste in music. I believe that the majority of the things we see everyday will continue to stay the same and not really change. The future is only going to be different depending if we fulfill what we believed to achieve when we were seniors attending High School. Hopefully within ten to twenty years my future is nothing like what i believe my society's future will be like.

One Time I Laughed Really Really Hard

There was this one time in class where my friend made a very funny joke about our school nurses. Everyone knows that at our school the nurse always gives you an ice pack no matter what the situation may be. If your head is hurting, you get an ice pack. If you threw up, you get an ice pack. Even if you are throwing up, you'll get an ice pack. So this one time in class, something was going on with one of the students in my class. I honestly don't know what it was that she went through in that moment, but it was serious enough to get the nurse. So as the nurse came, we continued the class. Suddenly, the nurse finally got there, and the first thing i see is an ice pack, like seriously an ice pack? As i saw the ice pack i told my friends to look and see that the nurses do really just give you ice packs. My friends and I bursted into laughter because an ice pack doesn't fix anything, you can be dying and these nurses will literally give you an ice pack! To some what we saw and related to might have seen dumb, but to us we found it super hilarious and bursted into a laugh attack that probably lasted about two minutes.

Modern Times

The movie Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin, actually made me realize that silent films aren't as I thought they were. Before watching this movie, I  use to think that silent films were just boring since they had no color nor any sound, but with this movie, I was proven wrong. Modern Times showed me that you don't need color or sound to entertain an audience. Sometimes having it without sound makes it more important since the moments that sound does come out, it may be something that the director is trying to make us think about and reflect on. I actually enjoyed this movie. Not only that, but it was very comical as well. What I liked about the humor in the film was that it wasn't forced into being funny. The comical scenes seemed as if it just came naturally and that is what I liked because now a days, some movies don't provide that natural humor to cinema. Overall, this movie was very entertaining and I am glad that I came across it.

My thoughts on Bullying.

When I was in elementary, I actually did experience bullying. At the time I didn’t really care or did much about it since I was just a little girl. I actually would get teased a lot by others. Sometimes I cared and sometimes I didn’t, it really just depended on how I felt. I found it pretty funny when I look back to it. The reason I find it funny is because the type of bullying I went through was through name-calling. Someone from my class came up with the name of King Kong with a hairy thong. At the time I found it very offense, but with time I just learned to laugh about it because in reality it is quite funny. Although I can say that I am somehow a victim of bullying, I really don’t believe that there is a way that someone can prevent it from happening. Bullying will continue to happen, whether it is through the media or face-to-face, I believe that there will never be an end to it. All we can do is maybe help people cope with it and not be affected by it as much. I believe that teaching others that what people might say about you can only affect you if YOU allow it.

Favorite movie

My favorite movie is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Both these movies had an impact on me but both impacted me differently. I consider Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire my favorite because unlike any other movie, this movie kept me compelled in every aspect of it. Every moment of the movie I kept learning something new, even though I had already read the book, I felt as if I was watching and learning something new. The actors who portrayed the characters had an impact on me too. The fact that they played the characters well, made me be much more interested in. My second favorite movie is The Perks of Being A Wallflower because it made me wonder alot about life and the meaning of it as well.
